Advent Retreat with grade three

Advent Retreat
Our Advent Retreat with the third grade class went very well!
We made Advent wreaths, doves, saw a video, and prayed
together!  It was a very worthwhile afternoon.  It's great to
do activities with other grades!

Advent Retreat

This week will be a busy week, too. Today was our Baby Jesus
Party!  I'll put pictures on next time.  Tomorrow we will get to see our preschool friends at the Preschool Christmas Program.  Wednesday is the time we get to see Mrs. Hulmer's music group perform, and Friday we will be having our very first Stations of the Nativity. (Paulist Press permission granted.)

Friday we'll have our classroom Christmas party!

December 2, 2012

I've been having problems getting to my blog at school, so I tried at home tonight and got on!

Advent is here!  We will be learning about different aspects of Advent, doing some Art with Advent themes, and we will be having an Advent Retreat with 3rd grade on December 14th!

Another fun activity will be with our Kindergarten friends!  We will be doing a St. Lucy project together.  This is Dec. 13th.

Remember our Christmas concert is also Dec. 13th at 6:30!  Mark your calendars!

Dec. 17th is our Baby Jesus party.  We will be donating our Baby Jesus gifts this year to the Shelter at Bad River.  Anyone is welcome to donate unwrapped baby items even though this is a 1st through 4th grade project.

December 20th is our Christmas store. Our kids LOVE shopping for their loved ones!

Our class welcomed a new student this past week, so we are now the largest class in grades K-8 with 15 students!  :-)

We are learning more about Reconciliation in preparation for First Confession which is January 23rd.  Advent is a wonderful time to speak of God's love and forgiveness as we prepare for Christ's coming!
Blessings to all!

September 21

This month is going by very quickly!  We have worked hard, and we are learning new things.  We are learning about each other, too.
One of my favorite things to do is read, and I've read a lot of books to the kids already. They seemed to enjoy them as much as I have enjoyed them.  Many of them you can get at the Vaughn Library.  These are the ones I've read in the past week or so: WE ARE IN A BOOK!
READ ANYTHING GOOD LATELY?
  HOW ROCKET LEARNED TO READ
HIP & HOP, DON'T STOP!
THE INCREDIBLE BOOK EATING BOY
LET'S DO NOTHING!
MISS MALARKEY LEAVES NO READER BEHIND
MISS BROOKS LOVES BOOKS! (and I don't)

The classroom book they've enjoyed the most is PETE THE CAT ROCKING IN MY SCHOOL SHOES, and my own book PETE THE CAT- I LOVE MY WHITE SHOES.  There is a You-Tube video with the songs for these.  Maybe your child has been singing it already!

In Religion, we have read the story of Adam and Eve in Genesis.  We also learned about making choices and that includes good and bad choices.  Yesterday we did the Chapter 2 Test by playing a game.  Two "contestants" would be up, and I'd give the question. The answer choices were on the mimio board.  Each contestant had a light to push to be the first to answer. They had a blast!  We'll probably do that next week, too.

In Math, we are working on subtraction.  We practice the fact families while doing the lessons.  They need to know their addition and subtraction facts through 20.

Have a great weekend!

September 5, 2012

It was a great first day!  We began our year with an all school liturgy which is a wonderful way to begin our year!

I read several books - and we had discussions on them.  We talked about good manners, respect, listening, ( which went right along with Father's homily today!), and bullying.  We reviewed the lunchroom and playground rules, and we reviewed the fire drill and tornado drill information, too.

Thank you to all who sent in the papers I'd given out yesterday!  Many remembered the money for their planners, too! :-)  If you didn't remember, please send it in. Thanks!

I wanted to include a class picture from today, but this is a new format for the blog, and I need to figure it out again.
Have a good evening!

It was great to see so many of my parents and their children!  I also enjoyed having former students stop in and say hello!  Tomorrow begins a new year of fun and learning!  It will be a great year!

 MY FIRST COMMUNION ANGELS!!!

WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY!

I WAS SO PROUD OF THEM, AND I KNOW ALL OF YOU WERE, TOO!

While we were waiting for
everyone else, they sat so nicely
in the social hall.  They made
me so happy!

I think Mass was great!  Thank you to our teachers and Mr. Bell for helping make our day special with Music.  Thanks to Deacon Bill and Deacon Clarence as well as Fr. Dean
for helping out!
Most of all THANK YOU to our
FAMILIES!

This afternoon we will be off to MMC for the second grade
visit where we get to learn
more about good nutrition, not
smoking, and other good lessons
on health.

 My kids are working towards
finishing our Math book!  I believe we WILL do it!  They said, "Remember, you said we can go to DQ if we finish it!"  I did say that, but I said they'd have to bring their own money which they said, "We will!"  :-)
Have a great day!

May 2

We had a wonderful presentation from Mrs. Johnson and Mr. Kent Seldal about their mission to Haiti!  We were fascinated by all the things they told and showed us! Mrs. Johnson had a great slide show of Haiti.  Thank you, Mrs. Johnson and Mr. Seldal!  We certainly seem to take many blessings for granted - like
clean water!  What an
experience for them, and how kind to share that with us!

We are happily looking forward to First Communion
this Sunday!  To receive Jesus the very first time is like no other experience!  Pray for all second graders who will make their First Holy Communion this weekend!

My kids are just flying through their Math these days!  We went through Geometry quickly and now Fractions!  The last test we took  was a first for me - EVERY child got 100%!!!!  Hooray for these smart kids!! They are determined that we will finish the book before school is out.  I believe they WILL do it!  We will be adding three-digit numbers next.

REMEMBER- TONIGHT, WEDNESDAY, WE WILL HAVE FIRST COMMUNION PRACTICE AT 6:00.  See you there!

April 5

BUNNIES, PRETZELS, AND CHICKS!

We have had a lot of fun making bunnies with Mrs. Pliss - Thank you! We also made pretzels as "arms crossed in prayer" to remind us to pray. Allee's mom brought in her pet bunny - so cute! Thanks, Mrs. Bigboy! Today Mr. Newago brought in four chicks - thank you, too! He hatched out 17 Jersey Giants, and they will be traveling to our son's in Wisconsin Rapids to live.

HAPPY EASTER! Here's hoping for nice weather!! :-)

MARCH 1 Wow! It's been a long time since I've blogged!!!

Pictures from our sliding party Catholic Schools' Wk. , Nakiah and Allee read the story "The Igloo" and tried to make one out of ice,

Mrs. Zifko is helping Ethan make his Valentine pillow. She and

Mrs. Pliss did the project with our class! Thanks, ladies!

We are working very hard in Math and have quickly moved from Addition of two-digit numbers to Subtraction of two-digit numbers! They picked up the addition very quickly so we moved on. There's so much more to get to this year! Yikes!

We have begun to learn more about Lent, and we will be doing different projects during the Season of Lent. Students have calendars for Lent which they keep at school to work on. We made banners God So Loved the World which turned out really nice. We will be having Stations of the Cross on Fridays with the whole school. Everyone is invited! Check the times as they are different from week to week.

In Science, we have been studying different environments such as oceans, tundra, desert, ponds, and grasslands.

We are using the mimio board on a daily basis. The kids love it! We usually need to use the whiteboard markers rather than the stylus as we seem to have techinical problems. :-)

Reconciliation went very well. Thanks for being there! It was interesting to watch the Religious Ed. classes having their family get-together before Reconciliation, too. Tim is good with his music!

Hopefully, I'll get to this more often. With all the e-mails I seem to send to parents, I guess I got away from the blog!

January 26

Welcome to our newest member of our Church! Nakiah was baptized at Our Lady of the Lake, and we had a "surprise" celebration for him in our classroom. We are proud of him!!!

We had our second liturgy of the year on Wednesday. The kids did really well. We have such good readers in our class!

Soon we will be finishing up our penguin unit. We had stories and an Art project with our Kindergarten friends. Friday we will have a movie and popcorn with them!

We had a treat on Tuesday. Mrs. Zifko invited our class to do the Chinese New Year cooking of wontons that she did with other classes. It was a fun experience and delicious, too! Mrs. Pliss also helped her with this project. THANK YOU, LADIES!

We have done our Math test on telling time. Most people did really well! We also had our mid-year Spelling Achievement Tests and our Leveled and Fluency Reading tests. Good Job, Kids!!!

We are looking forward to Catholic Schools' Week and especially the Mass with Bishop Peter on Tuesday. Wear RED!

January 5

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
We're all back and ready for a brand new year! There's so much we have to learn yet, and the time goes so quickly ( though I do have to admit - some DAYS go by slowly! :-)

We had a very nice liturgy for the Epiphany/Christmas on Wednesday. The kids helped and the teachers were the choir. Mr. Bell played the organ. It is so nice to be able to sing Christmas carols. We all got to view Father Paul's gifts for the Three Wisemen - gold, frankincense, and myrrh. It was fun to see them!

Today Mrs. Urling came in and read about Snowflakes. There was a discussion about snowflakes, too. Then the kids made beautiful and bright snowflakes, and they wrote a poem to go with their artwork. Mrs. Urling showed them how they did Reading, Science, Poetry, and Art all in less than an hour! Good job kids! Thank you, Mrs. Urling!!

We are working on various subjects with our new mimio board. I have a lot to learn yet on making things work properly! I actually have had some success with it, and the kids enjoy the activities because they are interactive. I look forward to using it for many activities which will add to our learning.

Our next liturgy for grade two will be on January 25th. Maybe you can plan ahead and be able to attend it with us. Our kids do so well, and they will make great lectors, greeters, and ushers as they get older!

We are working with analog clocks now. Some kids are a little confused when it comes to the quarter hour, half hour, and 45 minutes. It takes time and practice to get this. They are doing well with counting by 5 minutes for after the hour times. Maybe you can ask them to tell you the time if you have an analog clock available, and that will give extra practice. Keep practicing addition and subtraction facts daily, too!

We would like to thank Mrs. Marita and her family and friends who helped her collect Sunny D labels. Her time and effort awarded our class 20 new books for our classroom!!!! Thank you, Mrs. Marita! We appreciate it!!

Have a good evening!
