March 24

                      HOLY WEEK is here!
We will be learning about the Triduum this week. We will also be making pretzels to remind us to pray.  The pretzels are like "arms crossed in prayer!   My kids always enjoy this project!

We are working on a Palm Sunday art project - we ran out of time on Friday!  I hope everyone got a chance to attend Mass and get their palms!

We have a new schedule out for the second MAPS tests in April.  April 8 will be the first day of testing and will go through the week.  Please TRY and have your children at school so they aren't missing. Mrs. Parent then has to do "make-up" tests the following week.

We are continuing to work on subtraction with regrouping.  It's still a difficult concept for some, but we keep practicing using Work Mats and base ten blocks to help.   Our next unit will be Geometry.

We love having Weekly Readers to learn about current events and many lessons have coincided with our Science and Social Studies lessons.  The kids really like the online "games" at the end of our lessons.  These games are a review of what we have read.  They also have a video to go with each Weekly Reader. Thanks again to Mrs. Bednarik for buying these for us this year!!!

Our Easter ART projects were provided by Mrs. Pliss!  Thank you!  I'll add pictures when I can get them sent and downloaded.  Thank you, too, to Leandra, Lisa, and Jill for helping with these projects!!

We are ALL looking forward to Easter break!  Enjoy the break, and Happy Easter!!!

Catholic Schools' Week sledding - Yahoo!
Let's head back up the hill!
We made it!
Taking it easy!
Snow on my face!
Mardi Gras fun!!!

Catholic Schools' Week sledding was a blast for the kids!  Everyone had a great time, and there were no injuries!  :-)

We have been learning about Lent and doing Lenten art projects.  We do a weekly Lenten meditation and then write in Lent journals.  We use purple ink to write in them!
The meditations are relaxing, and my kids are good at picturing in their minds the messages of the meditations.  These are based on the Sunday Gospels for Cycle C.  They are enjoying sharing their thoughts from their journals with the class, too.

Next week we will begin our First Communion preparation lessons. What an exciting time it will be!  We will work on those lessons probably twice a week, and if we need more time, we'll add a day.  First Communion is the first Sunday in May.

The MAPS testing went well.  This first time was new, but we are hoping to see progress after the next session towards the end of April.

In Math, we are doing two-digit addition with regrouping.  In "my day"  it was called "carrying".  :-)  They are doing well with it.  The next concept will be subtraction.  We still need to review money and time as those were two difficult concepts for many.

Wednesday, March 6 is our liturgy.  Hope you can join us!  The following week is when we team up with fourth grade and do the Stations of the Cross at 12:35 on Friday.

Have a great week!  I will try to be more on top of this!
